چکیده

Real-time magnetic resonance imaging (rtMRI) provides information about the dynamic shaping of the vocal tract during speech production.1 We develop a dynamical system in the framework of Task Dynamics2 which controls vocal tract constrictions and induces deformation of the air-tissue boundary. The system parameterizes the air-tissue boundary through factor analysis of rtMRI videos and characterizes the relation between vocal tract shape and vocal tract constrictions. Background • Both vocal tract shape and constriction degrees at the phonetic places of articulation reflect the state of the vocal tract as a dynamical system. • The forward kinematic map gives constriction degrees as a function of vocal tract shape.3,4 • The inverse kinematic map gives vocal tract shape as a function of constriction degrees. bilabial alveolar palatal

Characterizing vocal tract dynamics with real-time MRI

Real-time magnetic resonance imaging (rtMRI) provides information about the dynamic shaping of the vocal tract during speech production [1]. We develop a dynamical system in the framework of Task Dynamics [2] which controls vocal tract constrictions and induces deformation of the air-tissue boundary. The system parameterizes the air-tissue boundary through factor analysis of rtMRI videos and ch...

Characterizing Vocal Tract Dynamics Across Speakers Using Real-Time MRI

Real-time magnetic resonance imaging (rtMRI) provides information about the dynamic shaping of the vocal tract during speech production and valuable data for creating and testing models of speech production. In this paper, we use rtMRI videos to develop a dynamical system in the framework of Task Dynamics which controls vocal tract constrictions and induces deformation of the air-tissue boundar...

Faster 3d vocal tract real-time MRI using constrained reconstruction

Real-time magnetic resonance imaging (rtMRI) is a valuable emerging tool for studying the dynamics of vocal production. Conventional 2D rtMRI typically images the midsagittal plane of the vocal tract, acquiring data from all the important articulators. Dynamic 3D MRI would be a major advance, as it would provide 3D visualization of the vocal tract shaping dynamics, especially for the modeling o...

VCV Synthesis Using Task Dynamics to Animate a Factor-Based Articulatory Model

This paper presents an initial architecture for articulatory synthesis which combines a dynamical system for the control of vocal tract shaping with a novel MATLAB implementation of an articulatory synthesizer. The dynamical system controls a speaker-specific vocal tract model derived by factor analysis of mid-sagittal real-time MRI data and provides input to the articulatory synthesizer, which...

Visualization of Vocal Tract Shape Using Interleaved Real-Time MRI of Multiple Scan Planes

Conventional real-time magnetic resonance imaging (RTMRI) of the upper airway typically acquires information about the vocal tract from a single midsagittal scan plane. This provides insights into the dynamics of all articulators, but does not allow for visualization of several important features in vocal tract shaping, such as grooving/doming of the tongue, asymmetries in tongue shape, and lat...
